Staring at Satellites

I’m sitting in my tent, in Dryden Ontario about 200km away from the Manitoba border. I’ll just start off and say it’s quite interesting to setup a tent when you’ve realized you’ve left your tent pegs somewhere. I tracked back as far as I can go and without success, so am using some backup pegs I had stashed away, and hex keys to fill the void for the remainder – Toronto is a ways away (2000km!) so I have to suck it up and buy some cheapo ones from Canadian [read more]

The Windy City

I’ve been resting the past 3 days in the windy city of Winnipeg, Manitoba – my old stomping ground for 6 years during my 20s. It was a defining moment for me to leave in the center of North America and I found that it defined me as a person, helped me realize some goals and dreams, and understand myself personally, without the reliance of anyone around me, as I moved to the area not knowing friends or having the family fallback. The weather was cold as hell some years, [read more]

Storytelling

My lips are burnt, my tongue aches and my skin is peeling, I didn’t eat anything hot, I just went for 4 rounds in a sweat ceremony today, in the Qu’appelle valley, in the town of Lebret, Saskatchewan – or Starblanket, as it’s known to the Cree aboriginal people. The past 5 days have been nothing short of epic, with a little bit of confusion sprinkled in along the way, however it is something that I need to address – work out – and move forward, being realistic about life. Ghost Towns and Diversions

It’s been a while since I’ve done a good post, I have been investing my time into catching up on statistics pages, finishing off a few reviews and for the most part not computing. I’ve been enjoying the riding immensely lately, it feels like I’ve left on the tour just in the past 2 weeks – the rest really helped and I’m able to tackle daily issues without stress taking me out. I’m also employing new tactics that I mentioned in a previous post – limiting my distance to 100km [read more]

Exped SynMat 7 Deluxe Mattress

Cycling is hard work. Constantly straining your muscles and pushing yourself to the limit brings on major fatigue at the end of the day, and having a proper way to rest is essential. One of the dilemmas I faced while preparing for the tour was to find the right mattress pad that fit my budget, comfort level, and weight limitations. After some extensive searching, I chose the Exped SynMat 7 Deluxe Mattress: The mat has been around in various forms since 2006 – and received an innards reworking in 2008 [read more]

Dinosaurs in Drumheller

First off I’d just like to make note that the mapping and route information is now back online, I was Digg‘d a few weeks back and had to make some serious changes to the back end to avoid the server from falling over, and it ended up breaking a few components. Now I know what to expect should it happen again and it’ll run smoother! On that note, spread this site around to your friends, coworkers, family, and other people you think might be interested – I’m always interested in [read more]
