Thanks
I’ve met many people while setting off on my journey, on average 10 a day. There are however some people who deserve extra special thanks for being who they are, going above and beyond to ensure my safety, comfort and give me the motivation to continue forward on the good and bad days. From the bottom of my heart, I offer a sincere thank you, you will not be forgotten.
Listed below are the locations of these kindred spirits – it will be updated further as time goes on:
Just as important, is you the viewer for continuing to come back and read about my travels, making it worth my effort as I document my travels for the world should others be interested in embarking on a journey. I’d be interested to know who you people are, how you came to find me, and where you are located!
Regards,
Dave

Yeah you are a little insane, but IT will do that to you. And women. Especially together. But… You did really well. I think you did the right thing. Life is not all about work. Fuck work. Live!

Nice to have met you at the Shell station on 19 north in Meridian. Hope the map helps you out while traveling thought Mississippi and be safe in New Orleans. Will keep you in my prayers. Peace!

Dave – you forgot to “Star” Portsmouth, N. H. I send your travel pic to others in the area, including a state DOT Engineer working on the lower bridge. It is being taken apart for a new one for 2013.

You are my hero!
I live in a cube, doing Java, in Ottawa; a living death. I live for my daily cycle commute, it keeps me sane.
I will be trying some touring this summer on my LHT.
one day…….maybe we will cross paths in Mongolia
If you are ever in Ottawa I would enjoy getting together.

For sure Mongolia is in the cards for me (your other comment) although unsure when – it’s been on my desires list since I did the Northwest Territories run 2 years ago.
Interested to hear where you make it on your LHT.
By chance are you related to a Jennifer from Manitoba, now in the Ottawa Valley?
Jun 12, 2012 @ 19:48:42
Hi Dave,
No relation to Jennifer but we Simard’s are legion…..
First ever touring this coming weekend… to my dad’s in Montreal. This is a shakedown trip for me to see how things work out. Doing a trip to Maine in July.
I will never swim in Lake Malawi
your blog is burned in my mind indelibly!

Dear Dave
You have been an inspiration to me. When I share your story and adventures with others who did not see you whilst you were in Manicaland, Zimbabwe, they end up saying “Is the guy you are talking about very normal? If he is normal, then he is a true hero” Indeed you are a hero!
We wish you well and pray that you continue to inspire, challenge, and propagate positive thinking and determination into many people.

Ahh Father Luke, was just thinking about you the other day and hoping your schooling was going well. You may not be on the Thanks page yet, but just wait for about 2 weeks till I can get to a proper internet connection and I can fill in the rest of everyone all the way from Zambia -> Zimbabwe -> Mozambique -> Malawi -> Tanzania
I’m glad you are thinking of me and feel honoured to be told I’m an inspiration to you. Never backwards, Dave

What a treat.so glad we discovered your logs. I ran across this while looking for ways to self power our gadgets on a bicycle. My wife and I hope to do some 2 week outings to see how it goes (I,m in my sixth decade) I have wanted to go touring for years. Your honesty while posting is very refreshing and noble. It inspires without painting your adventure with only primary colors. I,m glad to see by your last tweet that your feeling better. – K and A

Hi Dave~
I was part of a small group of travelers that chatted with you as we all prepared to leave for Arusha/Moshi from Dodoma a few weeks ago. We took a few photos of you and were on our way. I haven’t forgotten your story and am happy to have found your site! It’s people like you who inspire my own travels and help me reflect on my own sense of possibility and ‘What if I could…?’ I look forward to following along as you make your way up, down, and around the world. If you find yourself in the Upper Midwest (Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota), we’d love to offer you a place to rest yourself for a few days. Count us in as a mail-stop, too.
