Ready? One, two three – breathe in, and breathe out. Ahhhh. Feels good to be back in (south) Central Africa after a 2500km detour through Zimbabwe and Mozambique – Zimbabwe was worth it, Mozambique sticks out like a saddle sore as an incredibly difficult country altogether. I’ll quit bitching about it after I tell you about my last 2.5 days of the country. Mozambique has discovered what looks to be the worlds largest supply of high quality coal and natural gas near the Tete area (I skipped it based on [read more]

Went through an amazing series of days while riding away from Beira, Mozambique on my way north over to Mocuba – amazing yet challenging all at the same time. One more ocean to touch and many seas after touching the Pacific in 2009, the Atlantic in 2010, a different side of the Atlantic in 2011, and now the Indian Ocean in 2012. Judging by the way I move I don’t foresee any more this year other than the Indian farther north. I’m in Mozambique, and I’m struggling to [read more]

I’m not more than 12km away from the border separating Zimbabwe from Mozambique, yet another country to explore and find out what its really about as opposed to what has been said. Getting to this point had some ups and downs, and more ups at that – I’m continuously amazed at the warmth, hospitality, and friendliness of the Zimbabwean people I have met along the way – people who continue to persevere while their government is effectively stalled due to a minority government situation, the economy while starting to pick [read more]
