Coast to Coast to Coast

OK OK, enough of the automated Picture of the Week posts, I’ll post a little update to what I’ve been up to for the past little bit. It’s been a whirlwind of a month already and doesn’t seem to have any reason to start slowing down, as the countdown is on, October 17 comes quick!   I had a great time in New York City with new friends exploring areas of the city that I’ve never been able to see, getting a grand tour of the city from a local [read more]

None of the above

This isn’t news for 30% of my readership – but today May 2nd, 2011 is the day that we as Canadian Citizens choosing who is the most capable party to lead our country. Unlike the United States directly below us, we have multiple parties with significant support which has made our past few governments result in a minority government causing endless bickering between parties, laws not being passed, and a whole series of deceptive activities by the party with the most votes. Parliament sessions have been stayed and delayed, questions [read more]

Coming out of Hibernation

Hello again! Enjoying the silence? We’re a few weeks off from a new season, which means it is time to get moving and back on the road. While there hasn’t been any updates for a few months, it doesn’t mean that I didn’t get up to anything during that time – In fact I feel quite accomplished about the time spent, and enjoyed some resting before the next phase of the trip occurs, wherever that leads me. I’ve gone back and forth with ideas on what comes next, dealing with [read more]

Newfoundland Statistics

Statistics while cycle touring throughout Newfoundland, Canada, with photos, travelers information, daily logs of distance, elevation and costs, journal entries.

A whole lot of Statistics

Over the course of my trip across Canada, I kept some statistics in order for to me review for later, and to provide insight for those looking to do a similar trip. Things like cost, distance, weather and mood were all recorded, and while some I’m keeping for personal use, I hope you find some value out of this information. You can find the day by day information at the Statistics and Logs page which I kept updated each time I had internet access. This is a living document until [read more]

Now this is kind of weird. For 215 days I was mobile, cycling living out of 6 bags, moving forward to a new destination, and now for the past 7 days, I’ve been stationary in one spot. In fact, I’ve actually settled, found a place to live with another person who is in the process of “Life 2.0: Music”, and even bought a few possessions along the way. Ball Chair for computing, and speaker system with subwoofer to let me listen to music properly – not to say my I-Home [read more]

Now What?

Well, I made it to St. John’s, Newfoundland and even a bit past there. Not being satisfied with being so close to the end I decided to make the haul up to Cape Spear, the farthest eastern point of Canada to snap a few photos, take some video, and dip my front wheel in the Atlantic Ocean. I took a video which outlines this moment in time.. The final week coming into the east of the province was a difficult one to say the least. A good inch and a [read more]

Things fall apart

I must be getting close to the end as I’m being tested on all fronts for the remaining couple of hundred kilometres. I’m situated in the town of Gander, wearing 3 layers of Merino Wool for the Uppers, 4 pairs of Merino Wool Socks, long johns, pants, and my rain pants. I forgot to mention that all the wool is still wet from the washer – this is the quickest way to dry in these situations… I made the decision today to stop into a Laundromat to get a wash [read more]

Riding the Rock

First things first. I like Newfoundland. They, just like Quebec, sell beer in the gas stations. Not that I’ve bought any, but still, it shows that the province is forward thinking and doesn’t fall into silly liquor laws like some of the rest of the country. I’ve been in the province for 4.5 days so far and it has been a blast, and I’m glad it is I saved this area for last. With 570km to go until St John’s (I’m actually going to go a bit further) the kilometres [read more]
