Day’s Total: 100km Total Distance: 1130km No update today due to frustration and not wanting to externalize my issues.
Days Distance 94km Total Distance: 1030km Drastic, change of plans: It’s funny – how within a split second, everything can shift. Everything on this entire trip has shifted and things have come crashing down and I’ve got to stop and rethink things. I’m hurt, even after the meds still feeling random blots of pain, my skin is starting to actually bubble in various places popping at the touch, and my Icebreaker merino wool shirt was left outside in the dirt all night at the state park. This ruins the ability [read more]

I am frying in this heat, it is 89F/32C right now. Ive been cycling without a shirt on and sunglasses trying to even out my tan as I’m starting to look a bit silly and going very slow due to my body aching. I was finally able to get some medication in the past hour and waiting for it to kick in. While I upload some video, I figure I’ll show how my tent goes together and how all of my stuff fits in it. This picture shows everything but [read more]
Days Distance: 90km Total Distance: 933km Shivering last night, finally zipping up my -20 sleeping bag, I found a way to stretch out, even with the food pannier at the foot of the tent. Better my feet get bitten off than my head if a bear comes along.I dreaded getting up as soon as I saw light creeping in, knowing that it would be once again a day to find a place to shake off the fly, and let the air evaporate the moisture before heading out. When I got [read more]
Day Total: 119km Total Distance: 843km Have you ever had a partner, a neighbour, or a roommate that snores at night, and had trouble sleeping? How about THOUSANDS of otters in the bay beside me at South Park State Park having the time of their lives frolicking in the ocean. I spent a little bit too much time at the Casino, finding Wifi downstairs and using it to post 4 days of journals, attempting to put some pictures on Facebook, and uploading the rest to Flickr. Had a great chat [read more]
1:36pm Hello from Lincoln City, Oregon! This popular seaside town is absolutely hopping with vacationers, and a show and shine happening right outside the Chinook Winds Casino where I found an all you can eat buffet, along with a spare power jack at my table. I can see wifi in the facilities, however the antenna on this little netbook has difficulties connecting. The library is just down the way so I’ll be able to post online from there – as it’s been 4 days since I’ve made contact to the [read more]
Distance Travelled: 87km Total Distance: 724km Cape Lookout, Oregon The rain came in around 6:30am, so I rolled over, covered my ears, and waited till it ended. At 10am I exited my tent, to see various stirring outside from other bikers and proceeded to deal with the pack-up, this time clipping the tent fly to my back and running around to get the wet off. I left my bike exposed to the rain and the sadddle decided to bend a little bit. My butt isn’t affected by it, but IS [read more]
8:22pm Total Days Distance: 76km Total Distance: 641km After stuffing myself (and dealing with the gastro-nomical hell that ensued) I made it into Cannon Beach, definitely dogging it a bit. The turn off to Ecola State Park which is listed as a “Side Trip” in the ‘bible’ neglected to say that it would wear me pretty thin, pushing me through 2 miles of steep winding hills. I made it to the park and collapsed on the ground, covering my eyes with my gloves for 30 minutes. I then checked out [read more]
Wow – the raccoons at Fort Steven’s are absolutely legendary. Sometime throughout the night I heard all sorts of grunting and wheezing, and realized that they were back! I was seriously disoriented trying to get out of the wrong side of my tent and got out and chased them away. I had left an energy drink out and they had gotten into it, opened my water bottles, and were hanging from trees trying to get into our food. I laughed myself to sleep, trying not to gag from the smells [read more]
