I felt I would take a little break from the blogging after reaching Mexico, just to recompress, collect my thoughts, and give my muscles a chance to yell at me for what I did to them. I had the opportunity to stay with a family in Spring Valley, California until Saturday, allowing me to catch up on lost business opportunities, and to plan an exit route, back to Canada. Lois and Bob, hosted me and gave me access to a house where I had the ability to catch up on [read more]

Total Distance to Mexico 3141km Daily Distance: 161km Total Distance: 3146kmm Well, I made it, alive and well. I really pushed myself the past 3 days to reach my target of 30 days to get to the border, but it was worth it. I travelled through San Diego beside the harbours and naval operations bases before making it into National City on the “Mile of Cars” – talk about traffic! Finally – the last city Chula Vista was easy to navigate – right down broadway. I could see Mexico clearly [read more]

I’m in San Diego and SO close to my destination. After last nights post I hopped into bed, clothes and all, and slept soundly for about 5 hours, before being woken up of the trains travelling from San Diego to Los Angeles, carrying the commuters. Maybe it was the caffeine, maybe it was my excitement, but I got up at 7am and quickly packed up and was on the road by 8 even showering ni the process. Now here’s a fun little wrinkle – rain – really? Whatever, I moved [read more]

Daily Distance: 202km Total Distance: 2985km I am a robot. A well tuned machine who is able to withstand various abuses that life hands to it. This is where my training pays off. I’ve never had the opportunity or the mindset to put myself through 201km in one day, fully loaded, through demanding hills, intersections, drivers, and other perils until now. I’m on fire, and very alert. Likely due to the 2 energy drinks, 1 can Dr. Pepper, and Triple Latte throughout the day. This day had so many events [read more]

Wow – what a mess, 2nd wrong turn of the day and I had to climb a HUGE 1300+ ft hill which overlooked all of LA. The descent was a bit hairy down Crenshaw Blvd. with the traffic and bad roads, but I’m living and breathing in Compton, California, trying to figure out HOW to escape LA. I have 2.5 hours of light left and my GPS is burning out, so am sitting at a coffee shop hoping for a quick charge. I have 35 -40 miles to go before [read more]

Argh!! Beginning to reach the end of my sanity, stuck in a loop of LAX Airport, the noises, the people, the cars, is just becoming all too overwhelming. Managed to make it out of camp at a decent hour heading towards Malibu, where I was met with rolling hills! Not good on an empty stomach. By the time I found food I had done 20 miles already and was beginning to fade out hard. Luckily I managed to wolf down my food in record time and headed out through the [read more]

Daily Distance: 147km Total Distance: 2783km \ As I thought, I did a real good leg of the trek through Southern California today. I had a real terrible sleep, dreaming about some insane things and pretty much tossing and turning from 4am onwards. I wish I could fix my sleep pattern, however I think the damage that was done in the past (when I couldn’t sleep) needs to be reversed, starting with the removal of ear plugs, then get rid of the sleep aids, then get rid of the blinds [read more]

Daily Distance 133km Total Distance:2636km Wow – Didn’t realize it, but really did make a go out of it today – 133km is good all things considered. A very positive day for me, being able to sort some things out in my head and good old solid people helping me out along the way. While I was enterring the last entry, 3 people came up to ask me where I was staying for the night. Gaviota State Park was less than a mile away, and the book I’m following recommended [read more]

Had a real solid sleep, with the added bonus of psychadelic dreams which had me bolt out of bed at 7:45am. It was great eating a breakfast at camp, and not having to rush over to a restaurant this morniong, even though it was a cold one. No big deal. The skies were grey, and was it ever cold again. Arm Warmers, Rain Pants, and a Wind Jacket started me off for the first 2.5 hours of the day, navigating through 2 small communities (fillin), where I felt like I [read more]
