A whole lot of Statistics

Over the course of my trip across Canada, I kept some statistics in order for to me review for later, and to provide insight for those looking to do a similar trip. Things like cost, distance, weather and mood were all recorded, and while some I’m keeping for personal use, I hope you find some value out of this information. You can find the day by day information at the Statistics and Logs page which I kept updated each time I had internet access. This is a living document until [read more]

Now What?

Well, I made it to St. John’s, Newfoundland and even a bit past there. Not being satisfied with being so close to the end I decided to make the haul up to Cape Spear, the farthest eastern point of Canada to snap a few photos, take some video, and dip my front wheel in the Atlantic Ocean. I took a video which outlines this moment in time.. The final week coming into the east of the province was a difficult one to say the least. A good inch and a [read more]

Things fall apart

I must be getting close to the end as I’m being tested on all fronts for the remaining couple of hundred kilometres. I’m situated in the town of Gander, wearing 3 layers of Merino Wool for the Uppers, 4 pairs of Merino Wool Socks, long johns, pants, and my rain pants. I forgot to mention that all the wool is still wet from the washer – this is the quickest way to dry in these situations… I made the decision today to stop into a Laundromat to get a wash [read more]

Riding the Rock

First things first. I like Newfoundland. They, just like Quebec, sell beer in the gas stations. Not that I’ve bought any, but still, it shows that the province is forward thinking and doesn’t fall into silly liquor laws like some of the rest of the country. I’ve been in the province for 4.5 days so far and it has been a blast, and I’m glad it is I saved this area for last. With 570km to go until St John’s (I’m actually going to go a bit further) the kilometres [read more]

Beating the bad weather

Coming up close to the end of this phase, I’m writing this aboard the MV J&C Smallwood, traveling from North Sydney, Nova Scotia to Port aux Basques, Newfoundland. I calculated sometime in July that I’d be doing this trip on the 18th of October, and I am not too disappointed that I’ve arrived a week late. The weather is good, I’ve had a good time spending time with people rather than rushing through and missing out on opportunistic moments, and to be frankly honest, I don’t want to stop touring. East Coast Riding

I’ve been trying to write a post for the past couple of days, but seem to be without a few things, whether it be internet, motivation, or energy to get anything done. I’m now writing this in a semi-lucid state doped up on some strong antibiotics and Vicodin painkillers from the capital city of PEI, Charlottetown – population 32,000. I was thinking all day it is the smallest capital city I’ve visited so far, but for some reason my mind has been foggy and I forgot that Whitehorse, Yukon [read more]

Heading into Merry Times

I spared myself from the cold temperatures by staying with a friend last night once I arrived into the capital city of New Brunswick, Fredericton. Initial thoughts of the city so far is that it has a definite east coast-small town-friendly vibe associated with it. Yards are groomed, streets are clean, and there are many people enjoying what looks like a bit of an Indian Summer that has come our way. That is still not to say that it is cold as hell at night! Yesterday (Wednesday) I was surprised [read more]
