5:38pm, and I deviated from my plan and the book. It turned into a 20 mile trek UP and over a freaking mountain pass! Seemed like a good idea but now I’m wondering where and how I’m going to sleep today as there are no campsites in Raymond, Washington. I’ve so far travelled 20km and have a sneaking suspicion I’ve got another 35 to go before the sun goes down today. More later..

Made it up around 7:30am this morning and quickly tore down camp, to deal with breakfast. My camp mates were stirring around the same time and we all wished each other well, as it was unlikely we’d run into each other further down the road due to differing daily goals. The ride into the next town (where I’m sitting at a Burger King as I started salivating once I saw the signs) was a non stop trek through a native american reserve which with signs yelling FIREWORKS!! every couple of [read more]

Day 3 - Regret is a terrible thing.

Distance: 66km Day: Distance 114km Total: 306km The mountain pass was a little bit of a let down – after getting kicked off some woman’s property for stealing her wi-fi connection I made the trek up Mount Walker, which only took about 30 minutes to make it up for 670ft or so. I suppose the wrong turn I took earlier prepared me for it. When I made it to the top however, I saw the turn off for the scenic viewpoint which was another 4 miles and raced past it, [read more]

Distance: 40km Awoke last night with something scratching at my tent, this went on for quite a while and I was fully awake for who knows how long. I kept hearing critters running around so finally started yelling at them before putting on my headlamp, and running around outside the tent to chase them away. If the sight of me naked didn’t make them run I don’t know what would. Heart was racing and I couldn’t get back to sleep, of course the thought of it making me more wound [read more]

Day 2

Distance 103km Total: 192km Today was a pretty action packed day, as I expected. I woke up a few times throughout the night with large planes flying by and some bizarre dreams. After it got dark I suddenly realized what I’m actually doing and I had a small bout of realizing how large I actually am on this world. A speck of dust actually . I dealt with cleaning myself in the bathrooms and saw two gold rimmed eyes staring at me when I was back in my camp – [read more]

Day 1: 89km Total: 89km I woke up this morning, and boy was I sore. My going away party that I threw on Friday night took a lot out of me. Luckily I had packed everything well in advance other than the clothes I was to bring with me. Playing games with myself wondering if I should defer for a day to get more rest lost due to overall excitement from getting away from work for a while, a change of pace, and some solitude to work out some bugs [read more]

In 17 minutes I’ll be off on Phase-2 to Mexico! Keep coming back and check up on my progress!

This week has been interesting to the say the least. In a fit of celebration Jen managed to topple off her bike last Saturday night while we were returning home after watching the Celebration of Light fireworks in Vancouver. I sprung to action, had her brought over to the side of the road (while 400,000 people left the downtown area) and quickly built up a plan to get her back at home away from all the loud noises and madness that usually ensues on our streets at 11pm. She sprained [read more]

Unfortunately there are some people visiting this site that just had me disabled from Google AdSense for “posing a significant risk to our AdWords advertisers”. I’ve launched an appeal. Let’s see how this makes out.

As I sit indoors during one of the hottest days Vancouver has seen in years (the next few days are to hit 30-40 celsius), I’m having a minor anxiety attack over finances, and how much this trip is going to actually cost. Reading other peoples journeys and blogs, I have been accounting for $15 a day in expenses, of course over the course of the trip on average. So if I was to do some very simple math here based on my assumptions and that I have all equipment with [read more]
