Bicycling The Pacific Coast

Vicky Spring. Mountaineers Books 2005, Paperback, 274 pages, $10.98

This next phase of the trip took me solo from Vancouver BC, Canada all the way down to the Tijuana, Mexico border.. Crossing through three American states (Washington, Oregon, And California) – I waged battles with the Pacific Northwest rain, the epic scenery of the coast off of highway US-101, and the stunning trees and landscapes of northern California as I coast over the Golden Gate bridge heading further south passing through surf cities, Santa Cruz, Monterrey, checking out the Newport Beaches. I even managed to hurt myself pretty good! As a youngster I had driven this route, and it only seems fitting to do this as a trial run for Phase 3.

You can check out the photos to see how I managed out on the tour and then move on over to Phase-3: Canada to see what happens next!

The path taken is based upon the book Bicycling the Pacific Coast: A Complete Route Guide, Canada to Mexico. An excellent resource detailing distance, elevation, sights and waypoints such as campgrounds and hostels. Highly recommended.
